This camp will allow you to dive deep into your understanding of music and come out with fresh insight, skills, talent, and drive to make the most out of your passion and gift. We have a phenomenal staff that is teaching arranging, composition, music production, performance, composition, music theory, music business, and teaching private lessons on all instruments.

We use The Rhythm Compass™ as a unique way to learn how to really lock in and groove with your fellow musicians. We all will also discuss how to deepen your inspiration and creative abilities. There is also plenty of downtime to relax, chat, jam, connect, and participate in a variety of recreation activities. There is wi-fi throughout the building.

Curtis Madigan is the Founder of Sound Formation and a Music Education Pioneer. He is the creator of The Rhythm Compass™, a unique approach to understanding and mastering groove. Curtis is also on faculty at the CU Denver Lynx Summer Music program. Curtis will be teaching private guitar and bass lessons, how to access deeper creativity and inspiration, biomechanics and alignment through internal martial arts (this is great for performance posture and movement, as well as strengthening instrumental technique) and The Rhythm Compass™. Curtis is a guitar scholarship recipient and graduate of Berklee College of Music.

Julia Sokolowska will be teaching workshops on arranging, and private lessons on piano and voice. Julia is a jazz vocalist, pianist, and award winning composer and arranger. She’s composed and arranged for such artists as Anthony Hamilton, Rod Steward, Count Basie Orchestra, Arturo Sandoval Big Band, Grateful Dead, Patty Austin, Babyface, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Empire, Arsenio Hall Show and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Julia has made numerous guest appearances with artists such as: India Arie and Stevie Wonder. She attended Berklee College of Music on scholarship where she studied Jazz Composition.

Alana Dym will be teaching drum set and hand percussion. Alana’s love of drumming and percussion led her to the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music where she studied classical percussion under international percussionist and composer, Ney Rosauro. She also studied Afro-Cuban hand percussion with first-call studio percussionist and Grammy winner, Richie Bravo, and jazz drum set under accomplished professor and player, John Yarling. Alana participated in the Hit Like a Girl Contest, and achieved 11th place internationally in the contest for female drummers.

eric 2Eric Alterman
Eric Alterman will be leading recreation activities during the camp and teaching hand-percussion. Eric has a huge passion for the outdoors and has been a teacher at numerous high school camps. He played in the West African Highlife Ensemble at CU Boulder, focusing on music from Ghana and Guinea, while earning a degree in Geophysics and a degree in Psychology. He also has played in the new Brazilian Percussion Ensemble, in the Percussion Department of the CU Music School. He plays in the samba band, Quatro.

Derrick Ambat will be teaching music production, electronic music, and will be making tracks with all camp goers. Derrick is a music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. His passion involves pushing the boundaries of electronic music, and music for film. He studied at Musician’s Institute and USC. He currently resides in Los Angeles, and works from his home studio. His background in psychology at USC, and having instructed at UCLA extension for digital audio production, both add to the group and personal dynamic of his teaching.

FAQ

What is the cost? What is included in this cost?
The cost is $1400, $1550, or $1750. Scholarships are available. The early-bird discount is $1550. This discount applies to all who register by April 18th. The regular rate is $1750 after April 18th. This camp is limited to around 20-25 students. This cost includes all meals (3 gourmet organic meals a day plus snacks, lodging for 6 nights, private lessons, group classes, use of all facilities, and access to world-class music instructors). There is a $200/person discount to anyone that signs up with a friend or sibling. There is also a loft room discount which brings the total cost down to $1400. Loft and other room requests are on a first come, first serve basis.

Is there internet or cell service?
Yes, there is high-speed wireless internet in every room and there is cell service.

What kind of food is served? Are their vegetarian and vegan options?
We are proud to serve the highest quality, organic, fresh, local, and gourmet food. There will be a wide variety of options for all types of eaters: meat, paleo, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. There will be snacks available in between meals and there is a large kitchen where you can bring and store special foods if necessary.

What kind of music is taught?
This is a contemporary music camp and the main styles we focus on are: jazz, pop, latin, singer/songwriter, electronic music production, R&B, funk, classical and more depending on interest.

Where will the camp activities be held?
Almost all camp activities will be held on site. There may be possible outings for hiking, kayaking, or other activities.

Who is best suited for this camp?
We are looking for passionate high school musicians that are dedicated to their craft and ready to grow on all levels: musicianship, business, growth in well being, and learning to balance their lives through music understanding, connecting with others, and discovering what it takes to make it successfully as a musician.

What are the amenities like?
There are a variety of spacious rooms with desks, balconies with stunning views, wireless internet, and large bathrooms. All rooms will be shared by at least one other student. If you sign up with a friend you may request the same room.

Are there scholarships or discounts available?
Yes! We give discounts to anyone that registers with a friend or sibling. This is a $200/person discount. For scholarship inquires please contact us.

What is the closest airport?
The closest major airport is Denver International Airport.

What should I bring to camp?
Please see Alpine Villa’s recommendations. You should bring your principle instrument and a notebook as well.

When is check in and check out?
Check in is Saturday the 18th at 4PM and check out is Friday the 24th at 10AM. We look forward to seeing you there!
