James Borchers, Teacher

James Borchers, Ph.D. is a composer and musician. He graduated with an M.A. in Percussion Performance and Music Composition and received his Ph.D. in Music Composition and Theory. Many prominent contemporary music ensembles have performed his compositions and he has performed, primarily as a percussionist, in a variety of settings throughout the United States and abroad. An experienced and passionate music educator, James has taught a variety of classes and workshops for elementary to high school age children, at both private and public schools in New York City. He has also taught courses at the college level such as music theory, music technology, world music, and percussion ensemble. Through his teaching, James hopes to inspire students in the pursuit of an individual creative voice that will meaningfully contribute to the larger music community. In addition to teaching for Sound Formation he is instructor at Skagit Valley College.
