Rhythm & Percussion with Sound Math™ Level 4
This book is the fourth in an integrative system for mastering rhythm. This book teaches how to understand rhythm using binary numbers, rhythmic melodicism, multiplication, geometry, algebraic thinking and more. It is appropriate for those that have completed the Level 1-3 Workbooks.
Binary numbers are used extensively to teach consistency of tone, dynamic, and timing while simplifying the mental conceptual process. Syncopated rhythms can be easily heard and notated using binary numbers. You will learn numerous 6/8 rhythmic shapes that can be reflected and rotated within this book.
Rhythmic Melodicism is a new concept among many others developed by Madigan. Part of rhythmic melodicism is the ability to hear rhythmic shapes on the macro and micro levels or layers simultaneously. This is akin to a pianist hearing intervals, voicings, inversions, all within one chord type.
This method book shows you how to recognize rhythmic shapes at the subdivision level and meter level. This is of paramount importance in developing your ear, as there are shapes that can be repeated in “rhythmic octaves” just like the note C is repeated in different octaves yet maintains it’s identity.
Multiplication is essentially doing the same number a certain number of times in a row. This is exactly how rhythmic grooves are created. Once you understand how to loop single subdivision shapes, you can then break them apart to become two smaller numbers that are then added together and finally multiplied to create interesting new grooves.
This book is the perfect guide to continue your journey in music. It will also unlock the mystery of rhythm and simplify and strengthen your learning process. This book is the fourth in a method that works sequentially from absolute beginner through advanced levels of mastery.
Designed for more advanced students that have studied Madigan’s system for some time, this is the perfect workbook for any instrument and approach you’re taking in your musical path.
