Dr. Peter Stoltzman and Curtis Madigan are teaming up to offer a Physicality of Music Intensive at the University of Denver on Saturday January 11th, 2025 from 10am-4pm. Recommended for professional and amateur musicians and college students. Itinerary:

•Unlock Higher Levels of Mastery in Your Playing: Experience new heights of freedom and joy from utilizing physical engagements that improve rhythm, feel, and tone all at once.
•Attain New Techniques for Excelling on Your Instrument: Eliminate and alleviate common movement issues like pinched nerves, tendinitis, postural discomfort, or simply breakthrough to more fun and speed on the instrument.
•Radically Improve Your Rhythmic Feel: Madigan will teach his new discoveries on how to easily feel rhythm in a way that’s intuitive and natural rather than through mental exertion.

The group will then be divided into two: Curtis will work 1:1 or in a small group on implementing better technique (increasing speed, ease of motion, engaging from the core) and alleviating or eliminating injuries through Liangong. Peter will work with pianists on instrument-specific exercises for unlocking superior performance on the instrument and groove.

Bios
Curtis Madigan
Known as The Rhythm Doctor, Curtis Madigan has coached platinum selling recording artists, music professors, Berklee alumni and current students, and thousands of students around the globe in the K-16 grades. He’s trained 100+ music teachers across the country. He’s known for his penetrating insight into all aspects of timing with the world’s premier theory of rhythm. To this end he’s authored numerous books designed for musicians to take their game to the next level.
Madigan is the inventor of The Rhythm Compass™ and creator of The Sound Formation Method™. His work has garnered the support of countless experts and professionals in music and education alike. He is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, the founder and CEO of Sound Formation, and a graduate of Berklee College of Music. He’s a passionate speaker and has lectured internationally on his theory of rhythm. He has conducted research on his method along with Dr. Robyn Gisbert from the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver.
As a Certified Liangong Practitioner and expert in the physicality of music, Mr. Madigan has helped numerous musicians, athletes, dancers, doctors, and other professionals to rapidly recover from acute and chronic pains, functional movement imbalances, and greatly enhance their athletic facility, instrumental technique, rhythmic perception, and overall wellness.
Peter Stoltzman, D.M.A.
As the son of Grammy-winning clarinet legend, Richard Stoltzman, and renowned violinist and educator, Lucy Chapman, jazz pianist and educator Peter John Stoltzman naturally grew into a career as both a performer and teacher. Stoltzman has performed and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez, Allison Miller, Ron Westray, Yosvanny Terry, Tia Fuller, and many more. He has worked at the highest levels of the industry in virtually every style, from recording contemporary classical music with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, to headlining festivals with the American Music Award-winning funk-rock band, The Bomb Squad, recording with the innovative drum’n’bass legend, Deantoni Parks, making Hip Hop tracks with Che Pope at Warner Bros., to performing classical and jazz music at the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall with his father, and recording original songs with winner of The Voice, Javier Colon.
In 2012, Peter came to Colorado as the head of the piano area at CU Denver, where he also founded the LYNX Music Industry Program for 14-18 year-olds. He has been the Co-Director of the Mentor Fellowship teacher training program at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, has led Young Audiences workshops and been the Music Director for Austin’s Leadership through the Arts Program, and given masterclasses around the world. In 2020, Peter began forging new paths, founding Colorado Music Bridge—a nonprofit dedicated to modern music education and mentorship. He also took on a teaching position at Colorado State University, and most recently at University of Denver.
Peter graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1999, and earned his Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition with Academic Honors and Distinction in Performance, along with a Concentration in Music in Education from New England Conservatory in 2004. In 2010, Peter won first prize in the Philips Jazz Piano Competition. Peter took his first full-time teaching position at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2011-2012 before moving to Denver. Peter completed his DMA in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas in May, 2014.
